Online Storage “ownCloud 10.5”, delivered in two packages “complete” and “minimal”

August 4, Germany-based ownCloud announced its latest open-source online storage service “ownCloud 10.5”. Starting with this release, it is delivered in two different bundles: “complete” and “minimal”. Now Enterprise features are available via a license key.

ownCloud provides open-source online storage service and file share solutions. By installing ownCloud in their private data center, users can develop their on-premise online storage. With server-side encryption, ownCloud places great significance on security. With 200,000 installations, it has over 50 million users.

ownCloud 10.5 is the latest stable release of the version 10 series, rolled out in September 2018.

To simplify the delivery of the ownCloud server, it is now shipped in two packages, “complete” and “minimal”. Users can install it without having to register for ownCloud Marketplace, and if they are interested in Enterprise features, they can activate a 30-day trial by registering for a demo key.

Now Web DAV Locks backend, which was introduced in version 10.1, is now available in the ownCloud Web Interface. This allows you to manually lock a file from the Web Interface to prevent other users from making any changes, yet allowing them to access it.

The background job for syncing changes across Federated shares has been improved. The user experience resembles working in a local ownCloud.

This release supports PHP 7.2/7.3/7.4, ditching PHP 7.1.

The ownCloud Marketplace is now officially open. All apps are available for download and installation via the Market app. It even has an update-notification feature for apps downloaded from the Marketplace.
