FreeBSD-Based Firewall “OPNsense 20.7” Released

July 30, the development team behind the open-source firewall “OPNsense” rolled out the latest major release “OPNsense 20.7”. It includes support for HCPv6 multi-WAN.

OPNsense is a FreeBSD-based firewall and routing platform. Dutch-based Deciso started this open-source project as a fork of pfSense and m0n0wall in 2014. It provides enterprise-level firewall features, and it focuses on usability.

This project follows a twice-a-year release cycle for the major releases, and OPNsense 20.7 is the successor of “OPNsense 20.1”, released in January.

This release adds DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) v6 multi-WAN capabilities. The intrusion detection system Suricate is updated to version 5, and HardenedBSD to version 12.1.

This release also supports custom error pages for the web proxy. It also introduces new plugins to support basic firewall API.

It also includes other small improvements.
