“SUSE Linux Enterprise 15 Service Pack 2” Released

July 21, Germany-based SUSE announced the general availability of “SUSE Linux Enterprise 15 Service Pack 2”.

SUSE Linux Enterprise 15 Service Pack 2 (SP2) is the latest service pack of SUSE Linux Enterprise 15, released in July 2018. SP1 was released in June 2019.

Based on Linux kernel 5.3, it has been modularized into multimodal design. As to hardware, it supports x86-64, Arm, IBM POWER, IBM Z, and LinuxONE. SLES 15 has a 13-year lifecycle (10 years of general support and 3 years of extended support). Even when the next Service Pack 3 gets released, SUSE will support SP2 for another six months.

It has updated images for public clouds like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google, IBM, and Alibaba. Now, large scale HPC system can be deployed in AWS.

HPC support is improved as it supports “Slurm”, a centralized workload manager for HPC clusters. As to SAP environments, migration of SAP HANA and SAP S/4HANA services has been improved.

SP2 binaries are now available on the community version openSUSE link Leap, which makes it easier to migrate from openSUSE Leap. SP2 can be managed via Salt, making it integrate better with modern management solutions like SUSE Manager.

With regards to security, it includes small improvements. It supports NVIDIA Tegra X1/Tegra X2. It also adds support for Raspberry Pi 4.
