PuTTY 0.74 Released
June 27, “PuTTY 0.74”, the latest version of the Telnet client PuTTY, was released. It is available for download from every mirror site.
PuTTY is a free SSH and telnet client developed by Simon Tatham for Windows, with xterm terminal emulator. Along with SSH and Telnet, PuTTY can use Rlogin and SUPDUP protocols. It is licensed under the MIT License.
The latest release PuTTY 0.74 is the successor of version 0.73, released in September 2019. It is a bug-fix and security release.
PuTTY arranges the SSH host key preference by default, but now there is a new config option to disable the preference policy. This allows users to avoid giving away to eavesdroppers which hosts they have stored keys for.
This release includes security fixes. The issue in which other applications were able to bind to the same TCP port as a PuTTY local port forwarding has been fixed.
There used to be a problem that if an SSH server accepted an offer of a public key and then rejected the signature, PuTTY could access freed memory, but now this is fixed.
