Open-Source Multimedia Codec Library “FFmpeg 4.3” Released

June 15, FFmpeg Project announced the latest release of the open-source multimedia codec, FFmpeg 4.3 “4:3”.

FFmpeg is a multimedia framework that provides complete solution to record, convert and stream audio and video. It is made up of audio codec library libavcodec, and other various media libraries like libavutil, libavformat, libavfilter, libavdevice, libswscale, and libswresample. It runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, and BSD OSs.

The latest release FFmpeg 4.3 is the successor of 4.2 “Ada”, released in August 2019. FFmpeg 4.3 introduces support for the graphics API “Vulkan”. It comes with support for the AMD Advanced Media Framework (AMF) encoder on Linux via the Vulkan API. It supports Intel QSV-accelerated MJPEG and VP9 decoding and VDPAU VP9 hardware acceleration.

This release includes support for handling TrueHD and MPEG-H 3D audio in MP4. It supports AV1 encoding via librav1e. It comes with support for ZeroMQ Message Transport Protocol (ZMTP) and support for muxing PCM and PGS in M2TS. It is also added with WebP parser and MediaFoundation encoder wrapper, and it has switched the video editing tool from AvxSynth to AviSynth+.

It introduces new filters like v360 and scroll video.
