Firefox 77 Released
June 2, Mozilla released the latest version of the open-source web browser “Firefox77”. It supports Windows, macOS, and Linux. It is available for download from the official website.
This latest release Firefox 77 is the successor of version 76, released at the beginning of May. As Mozilla maintains the four-week release cycle, Firefox 77 follows the release cycle.
GPU-based 2D rendering engine “WebRender”, which was integrated into version 67, can now be used in a wider range of environments. WebRender is now available by default on Windows 10 laptops running on NVIDIA GPU with medium (below 3440×1440) and large screens (3440×1440).
Pocket recommendation feature, which helps to save web pages, is now supported in the UK. “Pocket recommendations”, based on the data from the Pocket-user community, appear when a new tab is opened. This feature is already available in the USA, Canada, and Germany.
Firefox 77 introduces support for viewing and managing web certificates via about:certificate page. It also includes security fixes.
As to features targeting developers, JavaScript debugger is greatly improved, bringing faster loading of sources while saving memory.
This release also brings support for String.prototype.replaceAll() JavaScript API, which handles string substitution.
On the same day of the Firefox 77 release, Firefox 68.9.0 for Android was also released.
