OpenSSH 8.3 Released, with focus on bug fixes

May 27, development team of SSH protocol implementation “OpenSSH” released “OpenSSH 8.3”. This latest release focuses on bug fixing.

OpenSSH is an SSH 2.0 protocol implementation and includes SFTP client and server support. It offers a mechanism that makes it possible to safely access remote hosts via encrypted path. It supports various authentication methods and provides sophisticated configuration options.

Being the successor of OpenSSH 8.2, released in February, OpenSSH 8.3 is the latest release of the 8 series,

IgnoreRphosts feature is improved. Both ssh and sshd now prefer chacha20 from libcrypto instead of the portable C implementation included in OpenSSH.

If there is no corresponding public key present, it now allows loading public keys from the unencrypted envelope of a private key file.

There are many other bug fixes.

Due to the security concerns against SHA-1 algorithm, the development team has announced its plan to disable SHA-1 authentication in a near-future release. Also, UpdateHostKeys will be enabled by default so that client can migrate to another algorithm.
