Paul Cormier is the New CEO of Red Hat, Jim Whitehurst stepping into president position of IBM
April 6, Red Hat announced that Paul Cormier is named the next CEO and president, and Jim Whitehurst accepted the position of IBM president.
In 2018, IBM announced the acquisition of Red Hat for 34 billion dollars. After the deal completed in July 2019, it was announced in January 2020 that Arvind Krishna would take over the CEO position after Ginni Rometty on April 6. As Krishna played a leading role in the acquisition of Red Hat, it was announced that Jim Whitehurst from Red Hat would become the president of IBM.
It was only natural that Paul Cormier would become the next CEO. He has worked for Red Hat as a longtime employee since 2001, and he has taken positions like VP of engineering. He was involved in the development of its main product “Red Hat Enterprise Linux”, and contributed to the growth of Red Hat. Most recently, being the president of Products and Technologies, he oversaw technology development, product management, and product marketing.
In the messaged he addressed to the employees, he said, “ Looking back to when I joined, we were in a different position and facing different issues, but the spirit was the same. We were on a mission to convince the world that open source was real, safe and enterprise-grade.”
