Adobe Released a Color Palette Tool “Leonardo” on Open Source
Adobe Systems released a color generator technology “Leonardo” on open source. It allows creating adaptive color palettes based on a desired contrast ratio.
Leonardo is a tool for making it easier to create color palettes for websites and various applications with ease. Based on Adobe’s design system “Spectrum” colors, it is delivered as a Javascript module with a web interface.
It is built using d3-color, and supports Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), which is the web accessibility standards of W3C. It generates color palette that conforms to accessibility standards such as WCAG minimum contrast standards.
Adobe positions Leonardo as a tool for both designers and engineers, which allows them to collaborate via web application. The tool supports contrast ratios 3 and 4.5, and it not only aids in creating color palette configurations, but also supports full theme generation.
Other than that Leonardo can be used online, its source code is released on GitHub under Apache License 2. The latest version is “Leonardo 1.2.1”, which was released at the end of February.
