‘KubeCF 1.0’ Released

March 20, Cloud Foundry Foundation announced that ‘KubeCF’, developed by SUSE, has become an incubation project. KubeCF is an open source distribution of Cloud Foundry Application Runtime (CFAR) that runs on Kubernetes. They will provide support to allow applications that run on Cloud Foundry transition smoothly to Kubernetes.

Cloud Foundry is an open source cloud application platform. Could Foundry Foundation started the “Containerizing Cloud Foundry” initiative with SAP, IBM, and SUSE in 2017. This led to creating “Project Eirini”, which offers scheduling feature for applications on Kubernetes, “Project Quarks”, which deploys and manages Bosh releases on Kubernetes. However as they realized that it lacked application runtime distribution for Kubernetes, they started KuberCF.

KubeCF is an open source distribution of Cloud Foundry Application Runtime, and it can deploy generated CFAR build to Kubernetes via dependency management tool “Helm” or cf-operator of Project Quarks. Also, it can work with Project Eirini.

By using these, they can provide support that enables moving smoothly from Cloud Foundry to the native components of Kubernetes.

SUSE KubeCF project released the first GA “KubeCF v1.0” on March 19.
