Open-Source 3DCG Tool “Blender 2.82” Released

February 14, the development team of Blender, an open-source 3D graphics creation software, released Blender 2.82.  It introduces support for Pixar’s USD, and improved support for UDIM.

Blender 2.82 is the second update since v2.80, released in July 2019.  It includes improved support for UDIM, which enhances UV mapping and texture workflow.  Now Eevee and Cylces support painting and rendering UDIM textures.

This version supports USD export.  USD is a 3D scene description format developed by Pixar.  It also brings better support for glTF import/export and Alembic mesh export.  The compatibility with VFX Reference Platform 2020 is also improved.

MantaFlow, a fluid simulation workflow, has been improved, now making smoke simulation possible.  The Grease Pencil has been updated with better user interface and tools.

Blender 2.82 is available on the project website.
