CKEditor 5 v16 Released, with code block support and restricted editing

December 5, development team of CKEditor announced the release of CKEditor 5 v16.0.0. The two major features are code block support and restricted editing.

CKEditor is a WYSIWYG editor that runs on web browsers built with JavaScript. It has modular architecture and is highly customizable. It was developed by CKSource and has been released as open source software.

CKEditor is the latest version, following CKEditor 5 v15 series released in October. This release includes the most-requested feature, code block support. With this feature, you can insert source code and configuration files, and within a block, you can use the tab key to indent, and can maintain indent level even after a line break.

Another major feature added to the release is Restricted Editing. It lets you configure in a way that editing can only be done in the chosen areas. For example, some users in a group can create document templates in the standard mode, and the other group can work in the restricted mode.

There are many other notable improvements added in this release. Now CKEditor 5 series can be built with Webpack 5, and in a line that starts with asterisk followed by a space after shift and Enter, autoformatting will not be triggered. Performance has also improved.
