Firefox 71 Released with Picture-in-Picture and improved password manager

December 3, Mozilla released Firefox 71.0, the latest version. Desktop and Android (Firefox 68.3.0) versions for Windows, MacOS, and Linux are available on their project website.

Firefox 71.0 is the latest version following version 70, which was released in October. With the improved integrated password manager Lockwise, it recognizes subdomain. Also, Firefox Monitor feature, which warns you of vulnerable passwords exposed by data breach, can be used while using a screen reader.

As for security, there’s an additional feature that notifies the blocking of cryptominers. The improved website authentication viewer now shows more detailed information.

Now you can use Picture-in-Picture, which pop opens a video in a separate small window, with any video websites. You can continue viewing a video even if you switch the tab. At this moment, this function is supported only on Windows, and it is expected to be supported on MacOS and Linux by the next release in January 2020.

It now supports native MP3 decoding, and the configuration page (about:config) is reimplemented in HTML.

For Firefox Private Network, which is an extension for using the VPN service beta-released for US users in September, they will expand the US user base to allow more participants in the beta test. Also for the next phase, they will offer limited service which allows you to use encrypted communication up to twelve hours a month for free. By the way, as of privacy, it’s been reported that over a trillion tracking requests have been blocked.

There are detailed feature improvements and fixes, for example, now you can launch Firefox full screen in kiosk mode.

As to the Android version, the main focuses are on the quality, stability and security.
